Radiografias
Light installation, 2003, Photographs and X-rays
Experimental photos: the camera got x-rayed with the film inside, while producing pictures of the x-ray machine.
The photographic film which got transformed by the rays served as the material for the work’s production, including the self-portraits.
Based on Walter Benjamin’s “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” this work approaches the technology of photography and analyses the subjects “equipment”, “site of production”, and “site of consumption”. It also analyses the similarities between the massive and repeated production of both photographs and x-rays and the connection between the camera or the x-ray machine and the eye of the photographer as “equipment”.
The result is an interaction between all parts involved: the photographer, the machines and the product.
