Comfort Zone
Performative Installation at Charim Events, Vienna, 2017
MUU Cable Factory, Helsinki 2018
For Comfort Zone Roberta Lima uses elements of abstraction and digitalization of information to "collect traces". The red carpet symbolizes the dichotomy of today's society: the false idea of comfort and luxury versus the "wrapping" of democracy and information. The QR code in the stamp invites the viewer to become an agent in this work by using their cell phones to scan the code, revealing actions and various statements - which can be then carried away and outside of the art space. It refers to hidden information, which needs exposure. The rising of movements such as #MeToo and #TimeisUp are an example of the use of media for empowering women, not only in the arts, but also in every segment of society.
Lima performed the wrapping and piercing of the red carpet in collaboration with local artists. Initially displayed to collect the traces of the gallery visitors, the carpet is then transformed into a sculpture. In this way, Lima aims to refer to political issues and historical facts, which remain uncomfortable to be addressed.
